Abstract

This study aims to answer two questions: how the calculation method for the calendar is described in QS. Yasin 37-40, and how its application in Indonesia can foster unity among Muslims. Using descriptive analysis and thematic interpretation ('ilmi approach), the study finds that QS. Yasin 37-40 provides implicit guidance on calculating the calendar based on the lunar system (Qamariyah). Analysis of these verses, in conjunction with related verses and astronomical science, reveals a comprehensive relationship between the Quran and scientific knowledge in the concept of calendaring. While the Quran does not explicitly explain the calculation method, it inspires humans to explore and develop knowledge further. The rukyat method has been practiced since the Prophet Muhammad's time, while advancements in knowledge have introduced the hisab method. Differences in interpretation lead to varied methods, and unifying these differences should refer to the Prophet's practice, namely rukyat with the wihdatul mathla' approach.
