SEJARAH TAFSIR LIBERAL DI INDONESIA: PEMIKIRAN, TOKOH KUNCI, DAN RESPONNYA TERHADAP ISU KONTEMPORER

Abstract

This research aims to uncover and critically and descriptively analyze the patterns of thought, the issues raised, and especially the methods of establishing Islamic law and values ??(hermeneutics) used by Indonesian Liberal Muslim figures. Furthermore, this study also outlines the historical roots, the main issues raised, and critical responses to them in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative method with library research because the data obtained is descriptive and comes from literary sources (books, journals, etc.). The data analysis technique used is data interpretation. The results show that Liberal Islam, pioneered by figures such as Nurcholish Madjid and Ulil Abshar Abdalla, engages in radical reinterpretation through hermeneutical methodology. Liberals deify reason and prioritize universal values ??(maq?shid al-shari'ah) over the literal meaning of texts (Al-'Ibrah bi al-Maqasid la bi al-Alfazh). This results in controversial interpretations of contemporary issues.
