This study aims to examine the concept of emotion regulation in the Qur’an through a thematic exegesis approach and to integrate it with perspectives from modern psychology. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by analyzing Qur’anic verses related to emotions such as fear, sadness, anger, and happiness, as well as values of regulation including patience, trust in God, and remembrance. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on classical and contemporary tafsir sources alongside relevant psychological literature. The findings reveal four main contributions. First, the Qur’an presents cognitive emotion regulation through the transformation of individual perspectives, such as through trust in God and positive thinking. Second, it emphasizes attentional regulation through spiritual practices such as remembrance and prayer, which contribute to emotional calmness. Third, it highlights response regulation through controlling emotional expressions, including restraining anger and promoting forgiveness. Fourth, the Qur’an introduces a distinctive dimension of spiritual-based emotion regulation that positions the relationship with God as the central foundation of emotional management. The analysis demonstrates that these concepts align with modern psychological frameworks of emotion regulation, yet the Qur’an offers a more holistic approach by incorporating a transcendental dimension. This study concludes that the Qur’an functions not only as a normative source but also as a conceptual framework for developing an integrative and contextual model of emotion regulation.
2026-04-18T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026
